BackhandCity Trifecta & Methodology

Step onto our Backhand City court and open yourself to an experience that is more than likely different from any other group activity or tennis class you may have had in the past.  Our teaching methodology derives from a 'trifecta' of benefits that were born from research, trial and error and passion for our craft.

Our teaching methodology is geared towards neophyte and recreational tennis players.  Our coaches have been trained to perform as muses rather than drill sergeants to help students accelerate their learning curve, enjoy the learning process and reach personal fulfillment.  Our learning experience is encapsulated below into three core competencies.

1. Self Discovery

Our cooperative teaching model frees the student of repetitive mantra and conventional dogma and allows players to "self-discover" their tennis game through rehearsal using our pro's as muse rather than a crutch.  This learning process is crucial for developing interdependent relationships while improving consistency in your game that you can apply with your friends and peers in social or league play. The self discovery process leads to trusting your game!

2.  Conditioning

Tennis is an exercise in acceleration, slow downs, side shuffles, runs, back pedals and swings.  Our classes emphasize these elements in developing and improving our students.  The natural benefits of cardio vascular health make our classes different from your typical stagnant tennis clinic and allow players to forgo their trip to the gym.

3. Social Capital

Our tennis classes bring "real world" and virtual bonding with like minded individuals towards a common goal with an emphasis on fun, camaraderie and exercise.  This social capital is an integral part of our business model and important to element for interdependent relationship between tennis professional and student.

From players who are holding a racquet for the first time, lapsed players re-connecting with the sport or avid players looking to shake up their game and find their potential TennisTIP looks forward to helping you self-discover your best tennis game.

What if I don't have a racquet?

Not all tennis clubs have demo racquets. It is best to bring your own racquet so you don't have to rely on the club or our teaching pro staff to have one for you.

New York City:

Demo racquets can be obtained at Mason's Tennis (NYC) on East 53rd Street in NYC btw Park and Madison on the south side of the street.

Try MT Tennis Touch in Brickell at 445 SW 8th Street just east of I-95 on Calle Ocho.

Or Tennis Plaza/ Racquet World in South Miami on US 1 across from Baptist Hospital and next the Foxx Lounge. Tell them you are from TennisTIP.

Note: They will let you play with a demo racquet with a credit card as collateral.

What is a tennis rating?

This is a number that rates the ability of a tennis player. The scale is from 1.0 (Beginner) to 7.0 (Touring Professional). It goes in .5 increments from 1-7. Refer to our rating guide to find where you are on the scale.

What about rainouts?

In the event of rain please consult the news page or call/contact your teaching pro for updates. Many times we have had the class even though it may be raining a half-mile away at your house. So if you signed up for lessons-show up! We will do our best to communicate with you in a timely fashion a few hours before the event. If you do not hear back from us this usually means the lesson or clinic is on. It is not under the authority of the tennis student or customer to make a decision regarding whether it is inclement due to rain and therefore seek a refund or credit. Most of our classes have rain outs built into the price so this worry is alleviated

What type of shoes can I wear to my lesson?

Tennis type shoes with flat soles for comfort and playability.

What you can't wear:
Running shoes and cross trainers with perforated edges are not good for tennis surfaces and are unsafe to wear on the tennis court. Please also refrain from wearing shoes with black marking soles.

Can I pay with cash or check?

We accept only debit and credit card payment online for tennis lessons. Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express is are accepted.

Do you have junior programs for kids?

Not really. We have had junior players play in our adult clinics as long as they don't mind playing with grown ups. We find the kids over 12 that do play with us get more benefit than the typical junior lesson because they pay attention more.

See our group tennis lessons here:  Group Lessons.

What is your refund policy?

  • Private and Group lessons require 72 hour cancellation policy via email.
  • Group clinics will refund money before 72 hours of lessons start (minus $20 processing fee).
  • LiveBall/Single Day classes have no refunds under any circumstances.

Here is where you can read more details regarding our policies.

Can I split the lessons with a friend?

We do not let players split lessons. Only person who signed up can take the lesson.

Is there a dress code?

Most tennis clubs we utilize do not have formalized dress codes, unless noted. Wear comfortable clothes to work out in and you should be fine along with proper tennis shoes.

Can you arrange a lesson for someone visiting from out of town?

Definitely. Fill out the private lesson forms and we will take it from there.

If they are looking for Group Lessons have them sign up for one of our single day classes it is a fun way to play tennis, get a workout and meet new tennis players.

Should I bring my own water and towel?

Some of our tennis clubs have locker rooms and towels. Some clubs will have concessions, vending machines and public water fountains. Outdoor tennis clubs and parks do not typically have as many amenities. Call the club in advance for more information. To be on the safe side bring your own supplies, especially water and towels to make you workout as comfortable and rewarding as possible.
