My box seat buddy made an interesting observation the other night when we watched the latest Miami Open installment of the Nick Krygios Tankathon in the 4th round against eventual winner Alex Zverev. The Australian’s up and down performance got us thinking. Who are fans really cheering for? Their favorite player or their own entertainment?

DO TENNIS FANS CHEER FOR THEIR FAVORITE TENNIS PLAYER OR THEIR OWN ENTERTAINMENT?

It got me wondering so I went back two days later and spent 5 minutes courtside just listening. ¬†This is a sample from Thursday afternoon Men’s Quarterfinal between Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta serving for the match at 5-4 in the 2nd set against World #8 Kevin Anderson. ¬†Young and old from the engaged and the ambivalent fans gave their all with some creative and engaging pump ups in both English and Spanish as only the Miami Open can provide.
